Abstract: 

WLSSD offers free walking tours of District facilities for school and community groups of 7 or more people (limit of 60.) Learn how "waste" is reclaimed, recycled and disposed of properly and how WLSSD works to protect the local environment. The two-hour FULL-FACILITY indoor/outdoor walking tour includes the WLSSD wastewater treatment plant (13 years of age), Household Hazardous Waste facility (13 years of age), and the Organics Composting site (7 years; under 13 years accompanied by an adult) all located at the District's Courtland Street site. Shorter, in-depth tours of one or more of these areas of operation are also available. Comparable video/audio tour presentations are also available by appointment.

Tours must be arranged at least two weeks in advance and are led, year-round, by WLSSD staff. We can customize tour content to age groups and interest areas upon request. Tour narration is amplified and visitors are required to wear hard hats and safety glasses. Some age restrictions apply. Guests are required to wear closed toed shoes with low heels and should dress for outdoor walking.
