Abstract:

The Nature Center offers classes for grades K - 12 during the school year, week-long summer nature day camp sessions, and special winter and spring vacation nature classes for grades K-8. For the general public, a wide variety of programs are offered year-round. Birthday parties, full moon hikes, parent/child preschool classes, adventure trips for teens, and family programs are just a few of the opportunities offered by Nature Center staff. Fall and spring are highlighted annually with the 'Fall Harvest Festival' in September, 'Creatures of the Night' in October and 'Earth Day Celebration' in April. Specially arranged programs for service clubs, scouts, and other public groups are available. The nature center has an exhibit hall with touch tables, live and mounted animals, a 1,700 gallon MN native fish aquarium, bird observation room, indoor observation bee hive and a life-size T-Rex skull model. During the winter months the Center also offers cross-country ski and snowshoe rental. The nature center is located in a 320 acre park with 6 miles of ski and hiking trails. Other park features include: 3 acre fishing pond, excellent fossil bed in historic limestone quarry, historic sandstone caves, baseball diamond, tennis courts, playground and picnic facilities.
