Abstract:

Start projects in your neighborhood with the New Dream Community Action Kit. Want to realize a new American Dream in your town but don't know how to get started? The Community Action Kit is for you!

The Community Action Kit is a creative, fun, and easy-to-use online resource that promotes collective action and civic engagement to build more sustainable, healthier, and happier communities. The Kit consists of a series of free guides to help people around the country organize and implement projects in their own neighborhoods. Each guide includes concrete project ideas, step-by-step tips, videos stories, and more.

Guide to Sharing
The first guide in the New Dream Community Action Kit is all about sharing: everything from starting a tool library to organizing a solar cooperative, from holding a clothing swap to launching a time bank. With how-to tips, fun videos, and useful resources, the Guide to Sharing provides the inspiration and practical tools you need to get started on these projects in your community - right away!

The guide is produced in collaboration with Shareable and explores four Action Ideas to help communities share more:

  • Organize a Community Swap - with a focus on clothing swaps
  • Lend Locally - with a focus on tool libraries
  • Share Time, Labor, and Skills - with a focus on time banks
  • Set up a Co-op - with a focus on solar co-ops
