Abstract:

Explore Minnesota's biomes and discover our state's four ecosystems.

What is a biome? Which biome do you live in? What is succession? Minnesota is home to four distinct biomes, all of which host a specific variety of plants and animals that depend on unique ranges of annual precipitation, temperatures, and sunlight, along with soil composition and geologic features.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has a website with numerous resources to learn about the biome in your backyard as well as educational ideas for using Biomes information. In addition to handouts, a free poster focusing on the ecological classification of Minnesota's ecosystems is available to order.
