Abstract:

An excellent package for stimulating and focusing group discussion about the role of wood products in responsible environmentalism. The 15-minute video presents material which is essential to understanding the global social, economic, and ecological aspects of natural resource conservation and development. It explains global implications of using wood or wood substitutes to support rapidly expanding populations, and looks at the global economic and ecological consequences of various options. The Leader's Guide contains an elaboration of the video content, a questionnaire to help participants examine their own environmental perceptions and misconceptions, and a question-and-answer section providing answers to some commonly asked questions on the topics presented in the video. Additional information is provided for these seeking more in depth knowledge on fire ecology and forest landscapes.
