Abstract:

Owned and operated by the City of Maplewood - Maplewood Nature Center and Neighborhood Preserves is home to deer, mink, great horned owls, and many other species of wildlife. The Preserves are 13 Open space sites throughout the city managed by the Nature Center staff.

Self-guiding trails wind through forty acres of oak woods, ponds, and prairie. A floating boardwalk and observation decks offer scenic pond views to visitors, watching for ducks and muskrats. In winter, snowshoes are available to rent for walks along the snowy trails.

Free trail maps and a self-guiding trail brochure are available at the visitor center. Enjoy our picnic area, water garden, and wildflower gardens. Resplendent with colorful wildflowers and tall grasses, James McKee Prairie is located a few miles north of the Nature Center. Directions to the site are available at the nature center. Professional naturalists lead fun, innovative nature programs for all ages. These programs are designed to increase awareness of relationships between people, organisms and the environment.
