Abstract:

When yard wastes were banned from Minnesota landfills, the city of Bloomington established guidelines for backyard composting in that community, including restrictions on a compost pile's location, contents and construction. The benefits of home composting and "grass-cycling" are discussed and models of different types of compost bins are displayed and explained.
