Abstract:

100 years ago, coal kept Chattanooga prosperous, however it also poisoned the air and water, creating an "invisible" city. In 1969 the US Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare declared Chattanooga the most polluted city in the US. Through community efforts and a long-term vision, they are turning this polluted town into a vibrant society and learned what it takes to be a sustainable city.
