General Duties of Summer Naturalist

  • Serve as role model for students and peers: display maturity, responsibility, flexibility, enthusiasm, and sound judgment
  • Teach Wolf Ridge summer program classes to diverse audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Expectation is that class is of high quality that may require preparation time. Summer programs include Wolf Ridge Summer Youth Program, Road Scholars, Family Camp, visiting summer school programs, and Wilderness Trips
  • Teach/work 10-14 periods per week. A period may include 3-hour long daytime classes, van driving, evening naturalist presentations, 1.5- hour-long evening activities, and astronomy
  • Possibilities for specialization are available in traditional skill and crafts, farm education and specialty camps such as survival camp, rock climbing camp and more.
  • Other projects may be substituted for teaching when necessary to fill out the workweek
  • Participate in staff training and orientation
  • Be flexible to accommodate the needs of different programs
  • Understand and adhere to all Wolf Ridge policies

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at time of employment
  • Working towards a Bachelors degree at an accredited college or university
  • At least two (2) years or equivalent of experience teaching environmental and/or outdoor education
  • Familiar with the Residential Environmental Education Center and/or Overnight Environmental Education Camp model and the responsibilities therein
