Position Description: The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is seeking Interpretive Naturalists to work in parks throughout Minneapolis doing the following…

  • Assist year-round staff in providing fun, hands-on environmental education programs for children and teens throughout the Minneapolis park system.
  • Assist with program preparation for environmental education programs
  • Provide interactive water-quality education, hands-on nature tables, and pop-up park activities at community events.
  • Assist with program teaching and development in other areas of the parks,
  • Assist with Boat inspection and Aquatic Invasive species education at boat landings.

Hours:  This is a seasonal position beginning in late May running through August. Hours could be between 9am and 9pm. You must be available for at least four days per week, including some weekend and evenings.

Compensation:  $13.02 per hour, plus mileage reimbursement. 

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Experience and interest in working with children and diverse populations in an outdoor setting.
  • Interpretive experience at a nature center, recreation center or similar.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Working knowledge of Minnesota flora, fauna and ecosystems.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule (average of two weekend shifts per month).
  • Be flexible, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, creative, good sense of humor. 
  • Must have a driver’s license, and a reliable car (mileage reimbursement provided).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic training in environmental education, ecology, natural history or teaching.
  • Demonstrated success teaching in outdoor setting or classroom.
  • Proficiency in another language.
