Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory Traineeship Program

Fall 2018 - Bird Education & Research Traineeships

The Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve in Duluth, MN is well known for the fall bird migration. It’s one of the best places in North America to observe large numbers of birds of great diversity migrating each fall. The Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory (HRBO) is the non-profit organization that manages and conducts bird research and education at the nature reserve. The mission of HRBO is to protect birds of prey and other migratory birds in the western Lake Superior region through research, education, and stewardship.

As part of its educational and conservation goals, HRBO is offering 6 traineeships for the fall 2018 season for those seeking hands-on professional experience to assist them in their pursuit of higher level education and/or career in a field consistent with HRBO’s mission. Training will focus on migratory birds found at Hawk Ridge. Training will be conducted by our managers with much knowledge and expertise in the field. This is a great experiential opportunity for trainees to learn from our best! Trainees will also complete a special project pertaining to their focus area that will be developed with their training supervisor.

Trainees will be provided a stipend of $100 per week and lodging. In order to apply, trainees must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and personal vehicle for transportation.

We are currently offering 3 Bird Banding Traineeship positions, 2 Environmental Education Traineeship positions, and 1 Bird Migration Count Traineeship position. Application details can be found on our website at: https://www.hawkridge.org/about-us/employment-internships/
