The Thomas Irvine Dodge Nature Center is an non-profit environmental education organization in Minnesota with 4 metro nature destinations located in West St. Paul, Cottage Grove and Mendota Heights. Founded in 1967 by Olivia Irvine Dodge, the organization was one of the first nature centers in the state of Minnesota. Dodge Nature Center and Preschool are recognized nationally in the field of environmental education. Dodge provides environmental education and outdoor education experiences for thousands of people each year.


Job Summary: This position is responsible for the Raiser’s Edge database, Spark NetCommunity, donor customer service, annual fund and special event support, grant writing and administrative support while reflecting Dodge Nature Center’s values, vision, and mission.


Primary Responsibilities:

Database Management:

  • Manages and enters all donor data and owns data integrity while adhering to best practices
  • Gift entry daily
  • Gift acknowledgement letters daily
  • Update and maintain user manual
  • Create queries and reports; pull data
  • Create forms in Spark NetCommunity
  • Enter content into WordPress

Donor Customer Service:

  • Answer development department phone calls and respond promptly to all phone and email inquiries
  • Follow-up with donors via phone and email to ensure accurate processing of gifts
  • Represent Dodge and the development department with professionalism with visitors in the office and at all events

Annual Fund Support:

  • Assist development director with the creation of all annual fund solicitations including mailing list, letter, RD and other materials as needed
  • Work with development director to update gift acknowledgement letters quarterly and for special campaigns Special Event Support
  • Annual benefit: meeting notes, event logistics, sponsorship coordination
  • Community events: help with logistics and attend as needed
  • Donor events: help with logistics and attend as needed Grants
  • Maintain grant and reports deadline calendar
  • Use RE to track grant submissions
  • Work with development director to prepare proposals, attachments and grant reporting

Administrative Support:

  • Work with Development Director to prepare materials for development committee meetings. Handle meetings logistics, attend meetings and prepare minutes
  • Track and report on development department volunteer hours
  • Other support as needed by development director


  • Post-secondary education
  • 1+ years experience with donor databases, Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Event planning experience
  • Development department experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proficiency with office equipment including copier, mail meter, etc
  • Strong inter-personal skills to work with donors, volunteers and colleagues
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to sensitivity with confidential information
  • Results focused
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required
  • Driver’s license preferred
