Job Title:                  Outdoor Education Program Facilitator

Purpose:              Facilitate Nature-Based Programs

Reports to:          Outdoor Programs Manager

Classification:     Non-Exempt; Seasonal Part-Time (Sept. – Oct. 2019)

Camp Fire Minnesota is a nature-based and inclusive youth development organization, serving a highly diverse population of youth in Minnesota through out-of-school time and outdoor programs. Since 1910, Camp Fire has worked to provide quality programming to young people. With nature as our catalyst, our engaging and nature-loving staff energize youth to discover their spark so their futures glow brighter.

Our vision is that Camp Fire Minnesota is the go-to organization for nature-based education. Throughout the Twin Cities, we provide nature-based out-of-school time programs in schools and affordable housing communities.  We partner with schools and youth organizations to lead environmental education through in-class school visits and field trips at Tanadoona. We also provide traditional summer (and school-break) camps at our two camp properties – Tanadoona in Chanhassen and Camp Bluewater near Grand Rapids, MN.

We are looking for enthusiastic and confident educators to lead environmental education and teambuilding activities at its Tanadoona property.

Position Overview & Responsibilities:

What sparks excitement and new passions in young people? Seeing and feeling that passion and energy in their teachers! The Program Facilitator leads inquisitive young minds through Tanadoona during school field trips, in-class sessions, and/or MEA day camp, teaching them all about nature and the outdoors. Topics include but, are not limited to animal adaptations, animal survival, ecosystem exploration, birding, and pond study. Our program serves a large variety of students from the Twin Cities Metro area with grades K-12.

Program Facilitators may also lead groups through the team-building challenge program. This program rotates through various challenges that groups must accomplish to become a stronger team. Group sizes are typically 15-25 students.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Love of nature and environmental education, and ability to share that with youth!
  • Experience working with youth in camps, mentoring, or education (environmental, outdoor, experiential)
  • Experience and comfort working with diverse populations and support inclusive programming
  • Professional and engaging with all – youth, teachers, parents, co-workers, etc.
  • Flexibility & willingness to deliver responsive programming that meets the needs of youth
  • Initiative, ability and willingness to seek necessary support from management
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Reliable means of transportation

 

Pay:

  • $12-15/hour based on experience
  • Hours vary
