Job Title: Environmental Educator & Host, On-Site

Classification: Exempt; Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Dates: Nine Weeks, Starting September 2019

With nature as our catalyst, Camp Fire Minnesota energizes youth to discover their spark so their futures glow brighter.
Youth spend 90% of their time indoors. Camp Fire Minnesota addresses this challenge by delivering culturally relevant, nature-based programs at Tanadoona, Camp Bluewater, and throughout the community to over 7,000 youth from all backgrounds each year. We help youth “light their spark within” through summer camp, environmental education & STEM classes for schools, and community-based out-of-school time nature programs.
We are proud to offer inclusive and welcoming programs to youth in the community. To this end, 45% of Camp Fire youth participate at reduced or no cost.
As a result of their Camp Fire experience, 90% of youth report valuing nature and stewarding the environment.
Position Overview & Responsibilities:
Our Environmental Educator & Host live on our 103-acre property – Tanadoona, in Chanhassen, MN – for the duration of the position. This position engages with the full range of groups who seek to spend time in nature through there event – from school field trips to weddings! Plus as a resident, you’ll get to experience Tanadoona in a way that few have the opportunity – explore the trails, observe the many animals that appear during the quieter parts of the day and take in stunning sunsets over the lake.
You will gain a variety of naturalist and outdoor education experiences building on your environmental expertise leading K-12 students and their chaperones/teachers in environmental ed/STEM/team-building field trips and day camps at Tanadoona. This is an excellent role to strengthen your teaching skills and gain more in-depth knowledge of nature-based curriculum and Minnesota’s natural surroundings.
You will also use your passion for excellent customer service to host and assist in preparing the property for rental groups such as weddings, including cleaning and set-up.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of environmental education with the ability and passion to share that with youth!
- Experience leading youth programming, such as camps, mentoring, or other education (environmental, outdoor, experiential)
- Experience and comfort working with youth and adults of diverse backgrounds to support inclusive programming
- Collaborative and willingness to help where needed to ensure excellent experiences for all
- Professional and engaging with all – youth, teachers, parents, rental guests, co-workers, etc.
- Strong organizational skills
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- $275-$325/week based on experience, including on-site housing
