Marketing & Communications Coordinator – job overview

The Audubon Center of the North Woods is seeking a highly qualified Marketing & Communications Coordinator. This position will manage existing marketing programs, while assisting with the development of new initiatives aligned with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with a wide range of marketing functions, including communications, advertising, digital marketing, and social media. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator must be an organized multitasker able to handle many diverse projects at once and meet tight deadlines.

Overview of Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the company’s brand strategy
  • Ensure all marketing efforts serve to achieve immediate and long-term business goals, identifying and executing improvements for processes, content, and conversions
    • Plan, develop, implement and analyze marketing/advertising activities and initiatives (including print, website, social and digital marketing, paid search engines, etc.) for various target audiences 
    • Plan, manage and execute our social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
    • Manage and implement written and visual content for digital ads, social media networks and website. 
    • Maintain and update website; publish content on website and other digital platforms
    • Collaborate and work with graphics/design and media vendors to produce promotional and development materials, as needed; ensure deadlines and graphics/ data specifications for advertisements are met.
    • Manage mailing lists
    • Coordinate and manage conference/expo/trade show booths, including marketing materials
    • Maintain and monitor marketing budget
    • Manage and maintain marketing & communications tracking calendar
    • Manage effective analytics and tracking systems to monitor the effectiveness of various marketing initiatives and placements (including Google Analytics, AdWords, SEO, etc.)
  • Create and maintain public relations (PR) list of media personnel, potential partners and agencies to promote our organization and events; plan and implement PR strategies and communications; create and distribute press releases and media relations content; coordinate media requests
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant advertising and social media best practices, current trends, market shifts, etc.
  • Maintain promotional materials inventory, ensuring all resources are current and accurate, coordinating requirements for new materials with graphics and print vendors as needed
  • Continually seek and research new marketing opportunities and sources of prospective customers
  • Increase operational efficiency and help set up and improve workflow processes when needed
  • Serve as a point of contact for media and public inquiries.

  • Creative with strong oral, writing and copy editing skills, excellent communication skills, the ability to craft clear marketing copy, and solid proofreading skills
  • Excellent time and project management skills and ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong problemsolving and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of market segmentation and market research strategies
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in social and digital media
  • In-depth knowledge of traditional and digital marketing tools
  • Experience with Google Adwords and web analytics, enewsletter services (like MailChimp), Wordpress, CRM and CMS tools 
  • Ability to learn and apply new technology quickly
  • Familiarity and aptitude with network hardware/technology is a plus
  • Flexibility with changes in priorities along with using sound judgement
  • Working knowledge with SEO/SEM campaigns
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative and work independently within a team-based dynamic
  • Desire to learn and grow professionally in the non-profit arena

  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ recent experience in a marketing/advertising, content management, PR, or communications position
  • Proven work experience in a marketing coordinator or similar role
  • Critical thinker with strong problem-solving and research proficiencies
  • Solid organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent computer and online system skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, HTML, web analytics, email marketing applications, Wordpress
  • Strong working knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Content Management (CMS) systems
  • Experience using data analytics tools and the ability to gather and interpret consumer behavior and tracking data into meaningful analysis summaries
  • Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, or communications


  • Full-time non-exempt position
  • Hourly wage starting at $15/hr
