Learn about the plants, animals, history, geology and ecology of the Big Woods/Big Rivers biome at the Carleton College Cowling Arboretum. You will explore this 800-acre site including the Cannon River and natural and restored forests and grasslands. You will practice skills in exploring and interpreting the natural world. We will have some excellent guest speakers who will deepen your interest and knowledge.
The class will meet at the Carleton College Arboretum Office in Northfield from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays from 9/17 to 10/25. The Saturday field trips will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on 9/29 and 10/13.
Students must also complete a group capstone service project of at least 8 hours before the final day of class.
The course cost is $275 and includes course manuals and supplies.
